The other day I was having conversation with a guy at the health club I just registered at. (Never had time when I was employed.) We started talking about our personal trainers. If you aren't familiar with the term, these are fitness pros who are educated to form work-out routines based on individuals strengths, needs and goals.

Anyway, Rick said something that bulls-eyed me right in the middle of my eyes. "I got so confused reading all the books and fitness periodicals. Any one has a different idea of what works the best. I eventually figured if I was going to work out, I could as well pick one expert, listen to them and follow their routine."

Later, as I was driving my pained body home, I thought about how suitable Rick's comment was to internet marketing. Everyone's a pro. (Even people who have yet to sell their first eBook.) And there are million programs, books, secrets, techniques and systems that will work for you.

The only thing is, you can easily fall into what my favorite business school professor named, "Analysis Paralysis". That's where a lot of people are stuck. They continue reading, and it gets in the way of actually doing something.

I was guilty of this, too. I must have paid for several hundred dollars worth of books and courses before I found what worked for me, with my own internet business.

Luckily, the professional I decided to follow was, in hindsight, an excellent choice. And by following his advice and following his ideas, I have built up a number of successful cash flow streams.

My point isn't that my "guru" is the right choice for everyone. The point is to pick one or maybe a couple of people you really appreciate, and model them. Of course, check out if they are actually successful in their own businesses first. But when you see someone you respect and who have got the style you like, listen to their advice and follow what they propose in their writings.

Following this tactic can save lots of brain cells that you would put in switching strategies and tactics. It avoids perplexity and gives you a good point of reference from which to work.

You don't have to keep reading and searching for the most updated eBooks. Assume your guru knows the newest tactics and will advise you of how well they do their job.

I'm not saying you never look at another eBook or eZine again, it's just that when you have one main star you follow, it's much easier to find your way, working from home.
